Matt Macedo is an American filmmaker specializing in vertical dramas. Based in California, he has quickly become one of the most recognized directors in the emerging vertical microdrama space. With a background in low-budget, high-impact filmmaking, Macedo is known for his resourceful creativity, ability to adapt under pressure, and talent for crafting emotionally charged stories that resonate with global audiences.

Since 2023, Macedo has directed over a dozen vertical series streaming across major platforms including ReelShort, ShortMax, and DramaBox, consistently delivering chart-topping projects. His early work, Call Me Alpha and The Unwanted Mate, both rose to #1 on ShortMax, establishing him as the platform’s highest-grossing director. He has since expanded into diverse genres—ranging from billionaire romance to supernatural fantasy—while maintaining a grounded emotional core in his storytelling.

Macedo’s dramas have amassed hundreds of millions of views, making him a defining voice in the fast-growing vertical format. Macedo earned his BFA in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy in Burbank, graduating summa cum laude at the top of his class. His academic training laid a strong foundation in directing, cinematography, and storytelling, while his early independent work established his reputation for inventive problem-solving and high-quality filmmaking on limited budgets. This combination of formal education and practical experience has shaped him into a versatile director capable of balancing artistry with efficiency.

Macedo's career began it's launch in 2015 when his film Drug of Choice premiered at the Reno Tahoe International Film Festival. Macedo strengthened his skills while attending the New York Film Academy earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Filmmaking and graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Drug of Choice, Homegrown, Without Regret, and Our Oceans are now available to stream on Amazon. Macedo's short film Our Oceans was a semi-finalist at the Oscar-qualifying film festival, The Rhode Island International Film Festival, and was also nominated for Best LGBTQ Short Film at the Los Angeles Indie Shorts Fest. Our Oceans also won Best Director, Best Actor, Best Short Film, Best Writing, and Grand Jury prize at the Hanford International Film Festival.
